Modification of Trauma Therapy Approaches When Treating Addicts | Barry Row, MS, LPC, ALPS, CCTP, AADC, ACS, MAC, Lic Psychologist

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will understand the basic tri-partite model that forms the basis of evidence-based trauma therapy.
  2. Participants will understand how trauma survivors become addicted AS A COPING STRATEGY and how this dynamic differs from the standard disease model of addiction.
  3. Participants will learn how to utilize Harm Reduction approaches when working with addicted trauma survivors.
  4. Participants will learn how to very quickly assess and utilize natural support systems to aid recovering addicted trauma survivors.
  5. Participants will learn specific ways both Stage I and Stage III (of the tri-partite model) must be modified to best serve addicted trauma survivors.

Social Media, Adolescents, and the Impact on Mental Health | Molly Barbario, MA, NCC, LPC, ALPS

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will become knowledgeable of popular social media platforms and applications and their basic purpose.
  2. Participants will be able to identify consequences of social media platforms and applications that adolescent clients may encounter (bullying, harassment, exploitation).
  3. Participants will become knowledgeable of positive social media platforms/applications that can benefit adolescent clients’ overall wellbeing.

Supervision 101: What I Don’t Know Might Hurt Me | Jennifer E. Randall Reyes, PhD, LPC, ALPS

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will review the major theoretical approaches to counseling supervision.
  2. Participants will engage in creating their own theory-driven approach for how they conduct supervision.
  3. Participants will use a developmental supervision model to case conceptualize a supervision session involving an ethical dilemma.

Restoring Hope to Veterans: Treating Guilt, Shame, and PTSD | Esther Ervin, MA, LPC, NCC, ALPS

Learning Objectives:

  1. Gain understanding of how the components of moral injury and PTSD impact daily function (Self-concept, anger, social function, occupational function, family life)
  2. Learn an overview of current evidence-based treatments and practical skills to implement that treat shame and guilt, and restore hope to veterans
  3. Learn practical skills to challenge Automatic Negative Thoughts that disrupt daily function in veterans
  4. Learn skills to help veterans restore sense of identity outside the armed services
  5. Gain insight into how moral injury/PTSD correlates with suicidality in veterans
