Clarksburg, WV — June 19, 2017: Highland-Clarksburg Hospital’s Activities Department is holding their Inaugural Summer Camp, Camp “MAYKUHCHANJ” (Make A Change), for the Children’s Unit this week. This new program highlights the camp experience and gives the children a variety of fun, new activities to participate in for the week.
“I’ve wanted to do this for years,” said Eric Marks, activities staff member, who is Camp Chief for the week.
“We started the camp as a fun thing for the kids to do while they are here,” said Brittannee Gain, activities staff member, who is Camp Advisor for the week. “Think of when you were a kid, you’d have summer camps, church camps, we wanted to incorporate that.”
Staff has incorporated activities, decorations and food that revolve around the summer camp theme. The facility’s gymnasium has been transformed to Lake “CHANJYAUP” (Change You Up) which is constructed out of Imagination Playground blocks, complete with paper fish. The camp grounds also include a camp fire, camp songs, S’mores, campfire stories, tug-a-war, tie dye and even a rival camp, Camp “REFEWSTUHCHANJ” (Refuse to Change).
The camp will continue with the Children’s Unit throughout this week.
“We want to do another camp in August and make shirts for the children,” Marks said.
